Biology 1.2 Report on a biological issue
Subject content
- Understand that an ‘issue’ is a biology topic that people hold different opinions or viewpoints about.
- Understand the research process:
- refine a given or agreed question or purpose so that it will enable focus research to be carried out
- plan the research – this may change as you progress
- collect primary or secondary data and/or information from at least three sources and the sources can be the same type e.g. all from the Internet.
- process information by selecting biological ideas relevant to the issue and organising the ideas for reporting.
- evaluating sources of information/data in respect to the question or purpose and giving reasons why a sources was used or not. For examples - does the source provide relevant or useful information? is the source up-to-date? Is the information in the source accurate? Is the information bias because it is presented to support only one view?
- Produce a report, including
- describing and explaining the biological ideas related to the question or purpose and identifying multiple links between the different ideas and the question.
- selecting at least two different points of view and then selecting biological ideas that support why a person, group or organisation holds each of those points of view.
- stating your own opinion for or against aspects of an issue using specific researched information to explain the reasons why you hold that opinion.
- giving a recommendation for action including what you believe should be done about the issue and why
- Produce a list of references (that is, sources of information) written in such a way that another person can find each source.
