Biology 2.2 Research the interaction between humans and an aspect of biology
Key tips
- Your teacher knows best; follow their instructions.
- Ask lots of questions before starting the research, so you understand exactly what is expected of you. It is a common mistake of students to include too much information that is not relevant, so save yourself time and effort at the beginning.
- Keep to the marking schedule given to you by your teacher.
- Understand the difference between describe, explain, and discuss.
- Always start with a half-page introduction in which you say what you are going to say!
- Discuss means to link detailed descriptions and explanations showing that you understand what is happening and why ... the why is really, really important. To link is to say "this happens therefore this is the result" or "... this means that ..." "... because ..."
- On average, expect to write about 3–4 sides of text for your discussion. However, this is not a hard and fast rule as it depends on your size of writing and your teacher’s instructions.
- Finally, end it with a summary of the key points.
