Chemistry 1.2 Demonstrate understanding of the chemistry in a technological application
Key tips
- Listen carefully when your teacher introduces the selected technological application. It is likely that they will explain any difficult chemistry concepts at this stage. Ask questions if you need clarification.
- It may not be necessary to read through all the information given to you. Scan the headings within the text to help you identify which parts are relevant.
- Focus on the chemistry of the application. The history of its discovery or alternatives to its use may be interesting but are not relevant.
- Highlight or underline key ideas in the text as you read through. This makes it easier to find relevant material again later.
- If you are provided with a template for summarizing relevant information, you should use it. If not, develop a method that works for you. It may be making a series of bullet points or drawing a visual map that helps you identify the links.
- When creating your final product, explain all chemistry clearly, using the correct terminology. You could include word and/or balanced symbol equations if they help you to explain the chemistry.
- Ensure you make the links between the chemistry and the use of the chosen application very clear.
