Chemistry 1.5 Describe atomic structure and bonding

Key tips

  • Show all working of your calculations
  • Use correct units in your answers with rounding to an appropriate number of significant figures.
  • Use the language of chemistry – don't give human feelings to non-living objects. For example, do not explain the filling of an atom’s valence shell as ‘the atom getting a happy number’. Instead, say 'The atom becomes charged. Its valency number will be the number of electrons it has accepted to fill the valence shell.’
