Chemistry 2.1 Carry out quantitative analysis
Sites for revision
In addition to the links in the subject content section, the following websites may be useful.
- Analytical chemistry basics - An online course that provides fundamental concepts and methods of analytical chemistry. Click on the links to titrations and gravimetric analysis on the index page to get an overview of these topics.
- Bestchoice For Chemistry - An interactive website, managed by Sheila Woodgate at the University of Auckland, which includes content and tutorials for courses in chemistry at university and at high school. Suitable for NCEA levels two and three. Before you can use this site you or your school needs to buy a license. Check with your chemistry teacher to see if the school has purchased one. You will need to register before accessing it.
- The Khan Academy - This website has a wide range of chemistry tutorials including many aspects of quantitative chemistry. The following is a selection that is relevant to this topic with many calculations clearly explained. You should be aware, however, that some of the language used is inaccurate. For example, there is reference to a “molecule of NaCl” (hopefully you can recognize that this is wrong!). If you are unsure about the meaning of any chemistry words, check with your chemistry teacher.
- Molecular and empirical formulae
- The mole and Avogadro’s number
- Formula from mass composition
- Another mass composition problem
- Stoichiometry
- Stoichiometry example 1
- Stoichiometry example 2
- Molecular and empirical formulae from percentage composition
- Achievement Standard 2.1 - Click on this link to view achievement standard 91161 on the NZQA website.
