Sites for revision
- Bestchoice For Chemistry - An interactive website, managed by Sheila Woodgate at the University of Auckland, which includes content and interactive tutorials for courses in chemistry at university and at high school. Suitable for NCEA levels one, two and three. Students need to register before accessing this. Registration is free. You should log on as a NZ high school user. Both NCEA and Cambridge courses are included. Some content is free but you need a license to access the full site. Ask your teacher if your school has a site license. You may need a code. Choose AS2.4 in the menu.
- Steve Marsden's chemistry resources for students and teachers - This website provides information about chemistry for students and teachers. To find a lot of material on atomic structure and bonding, choose the topics icon at the bottom right and then go to ‘The structure of molecules and the condensed states of matter’. There is information on all aspects of the achievement standard – some of it is more suitable for level 3 but, if you are unsure, use Bestchoice (the above link) to help you decide on the relevant material.
- Virtual chembook – Solutions - This website has a lot of useful information on the solubility of different structures in polar and non-polar solvents.
- Lewis structures - This website is very useful for learning the rules of Lewis diagrams and providing questions and answers for practice.
- Virtual chembook – Lewis diagrams - This website includes the rules of drawing Lewis diagrams.
