Chemistry 3.3 Describe oxidation–reduction processes
Key tips
- Follow the symbols, nomenclature, spelling, and formatting of the current IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) conventions as outlined from page 4 in the current Assessment specifications (PDF 301KB).
- If you can, demonstrate knowledge that you have gained from relevant practical work.
- Make a chart for yourself as you progress in your study of all the species that are examinable, their oxidation numbers and colours, what they change to and their oxidation numbers and colours. Then write out the half equation eg:
Cl2 is a green-yellow gas, oxidation number of 0
Cl- is colourless, oxidation number of -1
Cl2 + 2e- -> 2Cl-
