1.4 Read, study and show understanding of short written texts
This achievement standard involves a previous reading and study of at least two short written texts (for example short stories, poetry, magazine articles, short hyperfiction etc) and writing a response that shows understanding of ideas and techniques.
The texts studied will need to be of sufficient length and depth to allow you to meet the criteria. You must discuss more than one text, either text may be from the same or a different text type. For example you can discuss a poem and a short story to answer the same question or two poems or two short stories to answer the same question. You must write your essay in the correct answer booklet for your chosen text, so use the 1.4 booklet for this standard.
