Ideas may be based on information, and can include opinions, recounted experiences and/or events, observations, arguments, thoughts/feelings.
Develop ideas means to build on an idea by adding supporting detail, to form a cohesive text. You can do this by linking ideas and/or details into a complete and logical presentation.
Details may include: anecdotes (short personal stories), statistics, quotations, references to primary/secondary sources, video clips, facts, book/film excerpts, computer displays.
Details help to support and develop ideas.
Structure ideas means to have a clear introduction, middle, and conclusion to suit the task, purpose and audience.
Oral language features means that you have selected a range of features that are appropriate and express your purpose in the best way.
- verbal language techniques may include rhetorical questions, alliteration, listing and repetition to highlight ideas.
- voice may include changes in tone, volume, pace, or stress to help get your message across.
- body language may include gestures, facial expressions, movement, and the way you stand (stance).
- presentation features may include props, costume, demonstration materials or items.
Appropriate to audience, and purpose means the topic, language, and delivery all suit the people listening, purpose and the occasion. For example, when discussing a serious topic such as an illness, use formal language to make it sound serious. The purpose of the oral presentation may be: to persuade, inform, or to convey feelings.
Achievement with Merit

Command attention means you will be very convincing in your delivery by engaging your audience with full eye contact and use a wide variety of language and delivery techniques without hesitation. Delivery will seem natural and not forced. The oral presentaton will be memorable and have a certain wow factor.
