Newspaper front page
To make a newspaper front page you need to be familiar with a range of different techniques and examples from a range of newspapers. The Front page of the daily newspaper is a labelled example of page layout and Navigate the newspaper is an interactive way to see the parts of a front page.
Writing news stories
For examples of how the news should sound see:
Writing headlines and proofreading
Headlines are short and sum up the main focus or angle of the story. Often language techniques such as alliteration, pun, and active verbs are used. See headlines and revisions for guidance.
Using photographs
Your lead story will require a photograph. See photographs. Every photograph must have a caption to sum up the picture and give facts such as name and age of people, and location to place them in context.
Reviewing your work
To improve your newspaper front page think about the following:
- Is the masthead appropriate?
- Have you placed the most important story near the top of the page with the largest headline and an appropriate photograph and caption?
- Have you used an easy to read font that you can bold, enlarge or reduce to give variety?
- Have you used the traditional structure (scroll down to “structure (RTF 11KB)") of news writing?
- Are your headlines informative and interesting?
