1.8 Making Connections

Achievement criteria

The level of achievement that you receive is decided by the quality of explanation that you provide to explain connections across texts and the evidence that you provide to support your explanation. Explanations can be presented in appropriate written, visual and/or oral forms.

Achievement

Explain significant connection(s) across texts using supporting evidence.

Make sure you:

  • meet checkpoints and consult with your teacher during the planning stages
  • read at least 4 texts, at least one of these you must choose by yourself
  • select texts that are at this level, have sufficient depth and relevance to your topic
  • identify possible connections across your texts – such as theme, author, language features, or narrative perspective.
  • choose a connection topic that you are interested in and that you want to explore
  • read, view or listen closely, then take accurate and relevant notes of each text
  • find evidence from all your texts
  • read through your notes and select material to explain your connections
  • think about the similarities and differences between texts. Use these new ideas to make a key point about your texts
  • explain the connection(s) between your texts carefully and use evidence to show how each text is connected
  • present your findings in appropriate oral, written and/or visual forms.
