To design a website or web pages you need to be familiar with a range of different techniques and examples. See the reading visual text section of achievement standard 1.6 for a list of visual and verbal techniques that apply to designing a web page.
Carefully select and rework production features such as: menu bars, headlines and titles, links banner advertisements, graphics, home page and background to help you get your message across in a clear and interesting way. How to write for the web
Writing for the web is like writing for a newspaper you have to grab the reader’s attention and give them the most important information first. Make sure you
Explore the language and structure of news stories.
Headings and titles are short and sum up the main focus or angle of the writing. Often language techniques such as alliteration, pun, and active verbs are used. See Headlines and revisions for guidance.

Reviewing your work
To improve your website or web pages design think about the following:
- Are the headings and titles clear and sum up the content?
- Is the structure of the site logical and easy to navigate?
- Do you have more images than words?
- Is your written content interesting and uses appropriate language techniques and structure?
- Is your background appropriate and easy to read from?
- Are your links clear and obvious?
