2.2 Produce crafted and developed formal transactional writing
Achievement criteria
The level of achievement that you receive is decided by your ability to sustain developed ideas, style, structure, and accuracy used in your writing. Each part is of equal importance. You must be able to write independently, without any assistance, in English.

Achievement
- Develop and support ideas in a piece of formal transactional writing.
- Craft writing to create effects that are appropriate to audience, purpose, and text type.
- Structure material in a way that is appropriate to audience, purpose, and text type.
- Use writing conventions accurately.
Make sure you:
- spend time brainstorming clear reasons to support central ideas and/or opinions when planning
- think about a possible angle for your writing
- organise ideas for a specific reason such as planning or linking ideas between paragraphs
- support all points with well chosen examples, facts, and opinions
- use formal language and an objective tone (control your feelings) throughout the essay
- try to interest the audience by using some familiar ideas or language
- vary sentence structures so your ideas have impact
- thoroughly proofread to eliminate errors
- write over 400 words.
Achievement with Merit
- Develop and support ideas convincingly in a piece of formal transactional writing.
- Craft controlled writing to create effects that are appropriate to audience, purpose, and text type.
- Structure material clearly, in a way that is appropriate to audience, purpose, and text type.
- Use writing conventions accurately.
Make sure you:
- reach Achievement
- organise ideas for a specific reason such as to form an angle on the topic
- support all points with well chosen examples, facts, opinions, and thoughtful comments
- connect paragraphs by linking ideas and details for a smooth and uninterrupted writing flow
- link the introduction and conclusion
- show understanding of audience and purpose by using some characteristics of the specified writing style such as the language and tone of review writing
- check that your word choice, sentence structure, and language techniques all work together to support your angle
- vary sentence structures so your ideas have impact
- thoroughly proofread to eliminate errors
- write over 400 words.
Achievement with Excellence
- Develop, support, and integrate ideas convincingly in a piece of formal transactional writing.
- Craft controlled writing to create effects that are appropriate to audience, purpose, and text type, and that commands attention.
- Structure material clearly and effectively, in a way that is appropriate to audience, purpose, and text type.
- Use writing conventions accurately.
Make sure you:
- reach Achievement with Merit
- sustain original ideas and/or a unique perspective or angle
- combine examples, facts, opinions, and humour (if appropriate) to highlight your idea(s)
- write confidently and fluently using formal language and an objective tone throughout the essay
- write informatively to challenge and/or interest the reader
- combine mature and complex ideas, language, and structure successfully
- build an argument to challenge the reader, offer contrasting views, and some answers
- show understanding of audience and purpose by consistently using characteristics of the specified writing style
- use a range of sentence structures for deliberate effect
- thoroughly proofread to eliminate errors
- write over 400 words.
