2.8 Investigate a language or literature topic and present information in written form
Achievement criteria
In this achievement standard you must use appropriate research process methodology to complete the investigation, such as planning, collecting, selecting, recording, organising, and evaluating. You will be assessed on how well you:
- propose research questions
- select relevant information from a range of referenced resources
- present information accurately, drawing conclusions
- structure and organise your information and ideas in an effective written format.

Achievement
- Propose research question(s) and select relevant information from a range of referenced resources.
- Present accurate information and draw relevant conclusions.
- Structure and organise information and ideas in an appropriate written format.
Make sure you:
- meet all the requirements of the research process – planning, collecting, recording, and organising information
- ask 'open questions' which make you search for the answer by using more than one source
- use a range of appropriate, relevant, and reliable sources and texts
- record bibliographic details of sources used
- take accurate and relevant notes
- find information on all your key questions
- read through all your notes under each key question and select the best information for your final presentation
- organise your written report into an introduction, body, and conclusion
- use your questions as headings to organise the body of your report
- think about what the information suggests about the topic as a whole to form conclusions in each paragraph
- write about 500 words.

- Propose research question(s) and select relevant information from a range of referenced resources.
- Present accurate information coherently, interpreting the information, and drawing relevant conclusions.
- Structure and organise information and ideas in an appropriate written format.
Make sure you:
- reach Achievement
- begin to compare texts within the same paragraph to draw conclusions with close links to the key questions
- consistently draw relevant conclusions with close links to the key questions
- set out and present material clearly and show your own thoughts about your research findings.
Achievement with Excellence
- Propose research question(s) and select relevant information from a range of referenced resources.
- Present accurate and detailed information coherently, interpreting the information, making qualitative judgments about it and drawing relevant conclusions with close links to the question(s).
- Structure and organise information and ideas in an appropriate and effective written format.
Make sure you:
- reach Achievement with Merit
- evaluate your research material to select the best for your answers
- answer your key questions convincingly and with detail
- make links between questions to show a deeper understanding of your information and topic
- make insightful judgments and conclusions throughout the presentation
- judgments and conclusions are linked to more than one source
- discuss the purpose and the effect on the reader or audience
- leave no doubt that you have your own thoughts about this topic
- express your findings clearly and to the point.
