3.2 Respond critically to written text(s) studied
Non-fiction or print media
At the heart of any non-fiction or print media, lies the truth. It is the writer's responsibility to reconstruct events and retell memories as accurately as possible. It is inevitable that there will be some degree of bias created from the selection of information and the point of view of the writer. Often non-fiction and print media writers create a snap shot of our time, reflecting current thoughts, attitudes, values, and issues in our society. Refer to any person in the text(s) as a subject rather than a character.
In the examination you must discuss at least TWO print media stories, or ONE non-fiction text that you have studied. In addition to all the major aspects of literature, examination questions may ask you to focus on the characteristics of the print media genre (or non-fiction genre), to compare and contrast texts, or how techniques such as language, point of view, or structure have been used to present ideas convincingly in the text(s).
