3.4 Respond critically to oral or visual text studied
This achievement standard involves a previous viewing and study of a visual text, or listening to and study of an oral text, and developing a critical response, using supporting evidence.
Assessment will require writing a critical response/essay on an aspect or aspects of one of the following text types:
- film
- television programme – refer to at least two
- drama production
- radio programme/drama – refer to at least two
- electronic text, eg website – refer to at least two
- audio performance – refer to at least two.
Text(s) analysed at this level should be of sufficient depth and complexity to enable development of a full and detailed analysis. Text(s) studied are also expected to have significant literary merit/ worth/ qualities, or an established critical reputation or acclaim.
