3.6 Construct and deliver an oral presentation
Terminology
Here are explanations for terminology used in the achievement criteria for this achievement standard. They are grouped by level of achievement.
On this page: Achievement | Achievement with Merit | Achievement with Excellence
Achievement
Construct means that you will develop a structured presentation, which might explore a variety of ideas, points of view, findings, or dramatic aspects. Your presentation will have a clear introduction, middle, and conclusion.
Develop and support ideas
This means to:
- build on an idea by adding detail, in order to communicate a well thought out message
- expand or clarify ideas by adding detail with explanations, examples and evidence.
A range of appropriate presentation techniques may include body language, variation in voice, static image, moving/electronic image, and/or dramatic techniques.
Specific audience and purpose: audience implies a number of people such as a class or a group of peers. The delivery situation should be formal and the length of the presentation appropriate to the purpose and sufficient to show evidence of meeting the grade criteria.
Achievement with Merit
Effectively means clever, interesting, or offering a new way of looking at the topic to challenge the audience. The structure will have a controlled, unique plan that has been carefully thought through and combines the most important elements of the presentation together in the conclusion.
Detailed ideas means time has been spent on the explanation and clarification of support material for each idea.
Combine means oral and verbal techniques are used together to help communicate and support the message of your presentation.
Achievement with Excellence
Convinces and/or challenges means the presentation has been written and delivered to be persuasive and/or powerful in some way. Ideas will be mature and allow for both sides of the issue to be explored.
Insight and/or originality means you are able to make unique observations that are meaningful, relevant, and significant about your topic. A mature response to the topic will allow you to make conclusions about the wider meaning and impact of the topic being presented.
Integrate means to combine oral and visual presentation techniques smoothly in order to get the message across to the audience in the most effective way.
