CAS Calculus 3.2 Demonstrate an understanding of equations and expressions when solving problems
Key tips
- Revise algebra skills in 2.1 Algebra
- Be familiar with Argand diagrams.
- Be able to change from polar and rectangular form and vice versa.
- Know the formulae given in the formula resource.
- It is worth learning the trig identities by rote as you work through this topic so you will recognise which identity to use in the assessment. You can then check it in the formula sheet.
- You will be expected to use both radians and degrees.
- Always check that your calculator is in the correct mode (degrees or radians).
- Check that your answer is sensible, you have answered the question asked, and it is related to the context given.
- Problems may include circular motion, pendulum motion, tides, and biorhythms.
- Be familiar with the concepts of amplitude, period, and frequency and the relationship between period and frequency.
- Show intermediate steps in your solutions. If you give the correct answer only, you may lose the opportunity to provide evidence for other grades or to have minor errors ignored.
- For Achievement with Excellence you may be required to devise your own model.
