Mathematics 1.8 Apply knowledge of geometric representations in solving problems
Key tips
- Make sure you learn the correct mathematical terms for constructions, transformations, and coordinates.
- Practise drawing scale diagrams.
- Learn how to do the basic constructions accurately.
- You must use a ruler, compass, and sharp pencil for your constructions.
- Do not rub out your construction arcs when you have finished. This how your marker knows what you did.
- Practise designing patterns (to use in a logo or frieze), using transformations and constructions.
- Learn how to use appropriate equipment and technology
- Learn to use isometric paper for drawing 3-D diagrams.
For transformations you must specify the:
- distance and the direction of the movement (for translations)
- mirror line (for reflection)
- centre, angle of rotation, and the direction (for rotation)
- centre and scale factor (for enlargement).
For constructions you must specify the:
- type of construction
- position
- direction if appropriate.
