Statistics and modelling 3.2 Calculate confidence intervals for population parameters
Key tips
- Revise skills used in 2.5 Statistics.
- Revise the use of normal distribution tables, see Introduction and tables.
- Revise measures of central tendency and spread.
- Be able to locate the confidence interval formulae and quote them appropriately. You are not expected to derive these formulae but you should understand them and their application.
- If you are confused by a problem and are not sure where to start, browse through the formulae sheet. It may give you an inspiration.
- The use of appropriate technology is expected.
- The use of sigma notation (PDF 224KB) may be required, for example in calculations or proofs.
- Check out the I Can Do Sheet Level 3 Statistics from www.nzamt.org.nz for a list of essential skills for each achievement standard.
