Statistics and modelling 3.7 Use a mathematical model involving curve fitting to solve a problem
Assessment
- This assessment will take place in class time. Your teacher will let you know the time and place for your assessment.
- You will carry out an experiment given to you by your teacher, graph your data, test y = axn, y = amx and y = aekx as models for your data and find the equation that best fits your data. You then use this equation to make predictions, by choosing an x-value for which you do not have raw data and find the corresponding y-value or vice versa. Analyse your model by explaining how well your model fits, identifying limitations and giving reasons for the accuracy of your solution.
- Don't forget to bring to the examination:
- ruler
- scientific or graphics calculator, (see Use of Technology and Equipment for Assessment Purposes).
