Physics 2.7 Demonstrate understanding of physics in an integrated context
Key tips
- Follow the written instructions that will be given to you by your teacher.
- Ask lots of questions.
- Be aware of the appropriate use of units. You may use both negative index (for example, ms–2) and slash notation (for example, m/s2) when writing units. However, the examination paper will supply data using negative index notation.
- Revise your use of significant figures.
- Read each question in the test to make sure you know what is being asked for, and what information has been supplied.
- Be aware that this standard is testing your ability to apply knowledge from a range of topics, sometimes within a single question.
- Be aware that you can use formulae, diagrams, and graphs as well as written explanations to demonstrate your understanding and knowledge.
- In problem-solving questions, you must show all your working. Typically this will involve writing down the formula you are going to use; substituting the correct values into the formula; rearranging the formula if necessary; then carefully calculating the correct answer.
- Even if you are not confident that you can provide the complete answer, you should show (by calculation or written explanation) any beginning steps. For example, if you think the question involves the conversion of gravitational potential energy to kinetic energy, at least write Ep=Ek even if you can go no further. Often this is sufficient to gain an “achieved mark.
